Since 2018, and in collaboration with MOm, Thalassa Foundation has been supporting a state-of-the-art patrolling program that assists the Coast Guard and the Management Unit with the surveillance of the marine area to detect illegal activities (mainly illegal fishing). The Foundation provides the boats, the crew and the equipment to achieve regular patrols of the NMPANS area in situ, while at the same time, data on marine megafauna is being recorded. In addition, and following intensive efforts, Thalassa Foundation achieved the cooperation of the international environmental organisation SeaShepherd, which in 2022 joined the park’s guarding team, providing valuable assistance and expertise. Furthermore, the Foundation, investing steadily in innovation and new technologies, funded studies to find the optimum tools and surveillance systems for remote monitoring of the NMPANS.
