Thalassa Foundation supports the implementation of the project “First study of mesophotic coral gardens at the Sporades Archipelago“. The main goal of the project is to provide a first assessment of the coral population and the eventual basis for further studies aiming to highlight the eventual importance of Sporades Archipelago as conservation hotspot for Mediterranean corals. This will be accomplished by:
i)Understanding the structure of the coral forests
ii)Identifying anthropogenic pressures
iii) Disseminating and awareness raising at local, national and international scale of the coral forests’ importance.
The project is implemented by terrasolutions company and its duration is from June 2021 until February 2022.
